Bladder Leakage
Bladder leakage is one of the most common pelvic health concerns. It can affect daily life, confidence, and activity levels — but it is often very responsive to structured pelvic rehabilitation.
Understanding Bladder Leakage
Bladder leakage, also known as urinary incontinence, occurs when urine escapes involuntarily. This can happen during physical activity (stress incontinence), when you feel a sudden urge (urge incontinence), or as a combination of both. It affects both women and men and can occur at any age, though it becomes more common after pregnancy, menopause, or prostate changes.
Common Symptoms People Notice
- Leaking urine when coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercising
- Sudden, strong urges to urinate that are difficult to control
- Needing to visit the toilet frequently throughout the day or night
- Wearing pads or liners as a precaution
- Avoiding certain activities or social situations due to worry about leakage
- Feeling anxious about being too far from a toilet
Why Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Contributes
The pelvic floor muscles play a central role in bladder control. When these muscles are weakened, uncoordinated, or affected by tension, they may not provide adequate support to the bladder and urethra. This can result in leakage during moments of increased abdominal pressure or when the bladder signals urgency. Factors such as pregnancy, childbirth, hormonal changes, surgery, and chronic straining can all contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction.
